The Championship Season Draws to a Close

The EFL Championship season is reaching its climax, with the play-off final set to take place at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 26 May 2024. The match will decide the final team to gain promotion to the Premier League.

Play-off Format

The play-offs involve the three teams finishing in second, third and fourth in the Championship table, along with the sixth-placed team, who enter a two-legged semi-final. The winners of the semi-finals then face off in the final at Wembley.

Two goals from Huddersfield's Jordan Rhodes set them on their way to a 2-1 first-leg victory at Luton in the first leg of their Championship play-off semi-final on Wednesday night.

The Terriers had also taken an early lead in Friday's Championship regular season clash between the two sides at Kenilworth Road, only to be pegged back by the Hatters.

This time, though, Carlos Corberan's team held on to secure a slender advantage ahead of the return leg at the John Smith's Stadium this weekend.

Luton were much improved after the break and pulled a goal back just after the hour mark through Elijah Adebayo.
